At SYM, we are starting this new fiscal year with big news! SYM is embarking on an adventure with other partner organizations in the University District (UD). We will together establish an engagement hub at the University District Youth Center which will house different organizations in close proximity so that programs and services can be even more effective and efficient to serve youth and young adults at-risk and experiencing homelessness...

Since fall of 2024, SYM has partnered with other UD agencies to fill gaps created when YouthCare left the University District. The expansion of SYM programming was mostly funded by the current year's grant. This spring there was a competitive request for proposal process to identify the new lead of the UW Doorway Project housed at the University District Youth Center (UDYC) for the 2025-2027 biennium.  

SYM was awarded the UD Doorway Project grant to manage the UDYC building in the next biennium and to coordinate, with other partners, services to our clients. In partnership with Teen Feed, ROOTS and Ryther, SYM will lead this effort with Doorway Project facilitating services and agency relationships to keep the UDYC building open and thriving. The Doorway Project facilitates advisory groups that include the clients we serve so that we are always in listening mode and creating programming and services that are relevant and needed.

SYM Drop-in Center remains in its current location, as part of the UPC campus that is made available to us through the generosity of UPC congregation and leadership.

Since October of 2024 when SYM stepped in to this role at UDYC to host the Breakfast Program, and expand hours to offer the ONLY Drop-in Center in the University District, our client participation numbers have exploded. For the same period a year prior, the total number of client visits is up 99%! 

As always, our goal is to use the resources we have to best serve the youth and young adults in the UD that are at-risk or experiencing homelessness.
