SYM's team is growing with the addition of part-time staff members as our impact deepens, and community expands. We've moved into a new office (UDYC) space that also hosts the Breakfast Program, and our Drop-In is still fully operational in the University Presbyterian Church space! As is always the case, our work is possible because of the people involved in supporting us through volunteering, giving, and in the case of our new staff members, having a passion and desire to be involved in the day-to-day operations and longer-term journeys with our clients. SYM staff experience the highs and lows of working with unhoused and at-risk youth and young adults that we come to build relationships with and attend to all the tasks in-between that give us the ability to serve our youth best. Read more about 2 of our new part-time staff members below!

Jack came to us as a volunteer and served on Coffee Run before becoming a part-time Coffee Run Program Coordinator last summer. He joined us as an SYM intern in the winter and spring of 2025 and is now with as a part-time staff member, working mostly in the Breakfast Program and Drop-In! He is a fourth year UW student studying Applied Computational Mathematical Sciences (Scientific Computing and Numerical Algorithms). He originally heard of SYM through his mom, who used to be an SYM staff member! He hopes to have a positive impact in the community surrounding / within SYM. We are so grateful to have him back!

We are So Grateful to Messiah Lutheran Church, the Student Ministry at DOXA and the work crew from Union Church for putting in hours of work to help us complete our move into our new space at UDYC, including helping us paint our offices! Fun fact: the Student Ministry Director at DOXA, Adam, is also a weekly SYM Breakfast Program volunteer! Thank you to these community partners for supporting us in physical ways during this transition.

A special shoutout also to Aveda salon in Capitol Hill for gifting our clients free monthly haircuts. They always leave feeling great, and the atmosphere at Aveda is unlike any other! And thank you for our former SYM client that is a student at Aveda and had the fabulous idea to host us there! |
Volunteer Ask - Coffee Run! |

We are looking for more volunteers to join us on our Coffee Run outreach program this summer! Because many volunteers are out of town for summer break, we are currently only out on Coffee Runs once per week. We hope to add in a couple more days of outreach each week to increase access to essential resources. In the summer heat, there is also a greater need for water, electrolytes and sun protection, and we are hoping to provide these resources to a greater number of unhoused folks in the community! Please click here or email Grace to get started as a Coffee Run volunteer!

Sign up to volunteer today! There are lots of opportunities to help out weekly, monthly or ad hoc. With more client visits, SYM programs need additional volunteers on Meal Team as well as staffing programs. We look forward to seeing you! |
