Breakfast Program Anniversary! |

One year ago, with support from Teen Feed and UW’s Doorway Project, SYM kept the doors of UDYC open for the Breakfast Program. Amid changes in the neighborhood, including Youth Care consolidating their services in downtown Seattle, clients were unsure what was happening at UDYC. We saw between 3 and 10 clients in the first couple weeks. Eventually, by word of mouth, clients heard the news that this building was still open for their use in the mornings. They could still come to get coffee, a hot breakfast, cold weather items like gloves and handwarmers and chill inside with their peers. Since last October we have worked with over 20 volunteers and have served 352 unique individuals at the Breakfast Program.

At SYM, we care about our sense of community and believe that clients who invest in the physical spaces of UDYC and Drop-In feel more responsible for and connected to our programs and in turn, encourage their peers to take care of the space.
