Direct Service

Volunteer with any of our direct services to interact face-to-face with clients, building relationships while delivering resources and life skills. Click on a program below to read a description and find out how to get connected.

  • SYM hosts a morning breakfast program from 8:30-9:30 out of the former UDYC building. We began this program in partnership with the Doorway Project and Teen Feed to fill gaps in services in the University District, especially in time for the cold weather months. Email Alyssa for more information and to join this team! This area has the most current need.

  • A team of SYM staff and volunteers walks the Ave a few days a week with hot coffee, hand warmers, and other supplies to deliver to folks spending time outside. Email Grace to join a Coffee Run.

  • Deliver a meal to Drop-in once a month or more frequently to provide necessary nutrition to young people in the Drop-in Center. We accept home-cooked, frozen, or restaurant ordered meals that you pick up. Meals should be delivered to the office before 10am (start time of Drop-In) on the assigned day. Email Rita to get on the schedule.

  • Build relationships with young people at Drop-in! Our Drop-in Center provides basic and immediate needs for young people, including food, hygiene items, showers, clothing, and laundry. It is here that SYM staff and volunteers first meet young people, learn their stories and build relationships with them. Drop-in volunteers help us to make connections and meet needs of anyone that comes to our space.

    Drop-in hours: Monday-Friday: 10am-1pm

    • SYM offers regular activities to allow youth and young adults to create new experiences away from the streets. While having fun, participants can build their social and behavioral skills and make connections with other young people. Partner with staff as we take clients out for experiences and activities around Seattle or host activities in Drop-In, such as bingo, crafts, and more. Email Alyssa for more information.

Indirect Service

Volunteer by serving in areas that are vital to the function of SYM but don’t relate directly to clients. Click on an area of need below to read a description and learn how to get involved.

  • Support the Admin team with data entry, logging, shredding and procurement. Email Rita for more information.

  • Volunteer with a large or small group to complete projects around the SYM campus. Projects may include facility updates, cleaning, or neighborhood service. Email Rita for more information.

  • Give funds to support SYM’s ongoing work in the University District. Give here.

SYM would not be able to exist without our volunteers.

Thank you!
