A Client's Perspective

Jane first came to SYM for the food. A friend had recommended our programs and services because we serve breakfast at our morning Breakfast Program and lunch at our Drop-In Center. Jane was in a place where they didn’t know if they’d be eating safe, healthy meals on any given day.

“We were living in a tent at the time, and food was hard to find. Especially because the food we would get from the food bank wouldn’t last long and then we’d have to wait till the next week, so I started coming here.”

Over time, Jane learned that we do showers & laundry for clients and that was exciting to them. They came for the food and were pleasantly surprised by the various other programs and services we have to offer.

“Grace [SYM’s Case Manager] has been helpful. She’s helped us do a lot.”

Jane also enjoys the activities & outings that SYM does with clients.

“We were able to bring [our dog] into the zoo. Y’all make sure that even people who have dogs and have nowhere to put them are able to bring their dogs. [Our dog] had an absolute blast at that zoo trip.”

Recently, Jane got housed in tiny home housing. They hope now to work towards low income housing so that they have a bit more space, but something that is bringing them joy right now is the roof over their head.

“I don’t have to worry about rain or raccoons or mice or bats. We have locks on our doors. I can go to bed at night without having to worry about getting attacked. We are in a more secure place thanks to y’all and y’alls resources.”

Stories like Jane’s remind us why this work is worth it and important. You can help us support more people like Jane and more stories like theirs by giving to our Year-End campaign.
